Green Economy
To work towards a world that is carbon neutral it is apparent that we need to change our ways in almost every aspect. Society is currently orientated towards the use of fossil fuels and to change that the entire infrastructure of our country needs a complete rework. A green economy is what the United States and the rest of the world should be working towards as fast as possible. A green economy seeks to reconcile economic growth with environmental protection and social equity, recognizing the interconnectedness of economic, social, and environmental systems for sustainable development. a green economy seeks to reconcile economic growth with environmental protection and social equity, recognizing the interconnectedness of economic, social, and environmental systems for sustainable development.
Implementing renewable energy into society would be the one of the best opportunities to create new jobs. Renewable energy can come with all different types. The most common types of renewable energy are Solar, wind, hydro and geothermal. Every different type of renewable energy offers a different type of job. The creation, application, and constant up keep of these different sources of energy creates jobs. Wind energy offers a diverse array of job opportunities across the entire value chain, from manufacturing and installation to operations and maintenance, as well as in supporting industries and services. This contributes to economic growth, job creation, and local development in regions where wind energy projects are located. Wind energy also creates an opportunity for new cities across the U.S. to flourish. Solar offers many of the same opportunities as wind. Solar is available for personal use and can be placed on homes for personal energy use. Along with the manufacturing of solar panels the application is where many new jobs can be created. Sales, personal application and education on person solar use are some of the different options that solar energy offers. Hydro and Geothermal are another options for renewable energy, but these types are more similar to wind compared to solar. These types of renewable energy are typically used on a larger scale. The main jobs that are offered in these sectors are in manufacturing, or installation. The loss of jobs that come with the elimination fossil fuels can cause fear in many people, but the massive amounts of jobs that come with the application of renewable energy gives hope for the economy.
One of the most taxing parts of our society is the popular modes of transportation. The most popular mode of transportation in the United States is personal cars, and it's not close to anything else. According to statista 72% of Americans say the most common way to commute is a personal car. Another frequent mode of transportation when going long distances is traveling by plane. Both of these modes of transportation are extremely harmful to the environment, and when transitioning over to a green economy new modes of transportation will be needed to be addressed. The car industry is often looked at as an industry that will be deeply affected by the green transition. The EV market is a perfect substitute to replace the jobs that are going to be loss with gas powered cars. EVs can be used in many different ways, including , trucking, buses and personal vehicles. The airline industry is also going to be limited in a green economy, and a different mode of longer and shorter modes of public transportation. A train system is one of the best alternatives to the airline industry. A train system not only can cut down on emissions for travel, but opens up new jobs for the economy. Implementing a new rail system within cities and throughout the country gives new job opportunities in manufacturing, construction, sales and many more. The elimination of gas powered vehicles does eliminate many jobs for the economy, but the application of EVs and new modes of public transportation creates many jobs as well.
A green economy supports innovation. Fossil fuels have dominated the energy economy since the industrial revolution. Transitioning over to a green economy not only opens new opportunities for the job market, but creates a whole new area for people to be creative. Discovering new ways to power society and different ways of transportation opens up so many doors that fossil fuels have kept shut for years. The green economy also has a chance to address many economic disparities that are currently in place. The money that comes from taxation of the rich who typically produce the most emissions can be redistributed to under privileged communities to create a new green city. The application of these green cities now gives an opportunity for the people in the city to find a job. The implantation of more public transport allows more people to a obtain job and keep them. a green economy has the potential to address economic disparities by creating inclusive and sustainable economic opportunities, empowering disadvantaged communities, and promoting social equity and environmental justice. By prioritizing principles of fairness, inclusion, and shared prosperity, policymakers can harness the transformative power of the green economy to build a more just and sustainable future for all.
The main obstacle that a transition to a green economy is going to face is large corporations. A green economy gives more power to the people which large corporations do not like. The installations of solar panels on people's homes gives them the power to control their energy. Public transportation takes the need of cars and airline travel. These large companies will do almost anything in their power to take control of this new industry. It has been proven with oil companies buying new forms of energy with little to no effort implementing it so it can continue to use oil. The green economy encourages a new job a market, new innovation, and less economic disparity. The green economy is the future, or there will be no future.

I agree that transitioning to a green economy would greatly benefit the planet and aid the climate crisis. With how economically focused the United States is, change needs to occur withing the economy and all employment sectors in order to work towards creating a long-term sustainable mindset. Implementing renewable energy into any industry possible, especially in transportation, is a great way to do this.
ReplyDeleteYour post does a great showcasing how we can implement renewable energy into society. I like how you mentioned The installations of solar panels on people's homes gives them the power to control their energy. I believe that giving people more control of there energy would be a big step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense to me to start by talking about the energy secton. Wind and solar promise to employ many more people than fossil fuels and far more safely. Working in a coal mine? How many jobs do pipelines create? This transition can create many great jobs. My son works in clean technology - so many start up companies and well-paying jobs!
ReplyDeleteI would be super interested to see the projection of climate change if we invested in solar power for all homes in the U.S. These jobs would be a great opportunity for economic growth in our country and replenish lost revenue from shutting down the oil and gas industry. Workers could not only install solar panels, but do maintenance on them as well, like consumers energy. We will have plenty of sun exposure to generate enough energy, and people will have jobs that can actually help them afford a living. Another idea I had for clean energy is providing stationary bikes to people (or similar exercise equipment based on ability), to help power homes and keep costs down, or even for financial incentives to sell the power created to larger companies. This would also lower obesity related health issues and help people survive in an inevitably hotter climate.
ReplyDeleteI agree we as people not just America but all over the world need to be greener. I feel like its going to take a lot of work for counties to change their ways. I think its something that can be done im just not sure if we have enough time. I really like the idea of using more public transit. ive always been into the idea of bullet trains since ive seen them at Disney world.
